Can This Election Just Be Over?

I’m tired of hearing about the United States presidential election.

So tired I don’t even know what to do with myself. I know I’m not alone. In fact, I have a sneaky suspicion you might be tired of hearing about it also. It’s everywhere. Kind of like a bad stomach bug that won’t go away. I recognize we’re in September and it’s going to be around for a couple more months, but I’m over it.

Done.

Finished.

I don’t want to hear about who said what to whom. I don’t want to feel like I’m watching a Scandal episode every time I turn on the news. I don’t want to watch the candidates running for the most powerful office in the world constantly argue with each other. Sometimes, when I turn on the evening news, I want to bang my head against the wall because it’s maddening to hear the details that occurred along the campaign trail.

Most people don’t want to listen to the ridiculous and unimpressive dialogue that has almost nothing to do with real issues. The issues that matter.

What I want is simple.

Can this election just be over?

Can this election just be over?

I want a presidential candidate I can trust.

This November, after the election, I want to feel like the winner of the most powerful office in the world goes to a person who is truly honorable and deserving. I want to be able to say to my kids, “Look at our incoming president, what a good and hard working individual we will have running our country.”

I want the leader of our country to be kind and to treat people with respect. To be honest and trustworthy, well-thought-of and admired.

This really should be an attainable goal. Sadly, I’m not sure it is anymore.

Everywhere I go, people are talking about the election.

In the grocery store line I heard two people discussing this. They were looking at magazine covers and shaking their heads.

“Who are you going to vote for?” I heard a woman ask the lady next to her.

“I don’t know,” she said, “I don’t want either one. Maybe I just won’t vote.”

While I understand this rationale, it’s not the solution. Not voting isn’t going to help.

Regardless of who you want to win the 2016 election, I’m sure you just want it to be over with and done. Maybe you’re like me and you’re tired of turning on the TV, listening to the news or hearing commentary on the radio about the nonsense that’s going on with this election. While I adore watching comedy skits that make fun of our candidates and our country, and the quantity of entertaining material available right now is a writers dream, let us not forget how very serious this actually is.

This isn’t a joke. This isn’t a skit. This is our future we’re talking about.

How. Scary. Is. That?

I don’t have all the answers. In fact, at this point, I’m not sure I even know what questions should be asked.

I’m not a politician, analyst or historian. I’m a Mom who wants what is best for my children and yours. Our kids merit a leader who will do what is best to ensure their future is bright.

They deserve this and nothing less.

Find meaning each day,

Dara
