Happiness Must be Grown in One’s Own Garden

You’d have to be living under a rock to not know about Bruce Jenner’s recent transformation into Caitlyn.

It’s everywhere. The news, magazines, TV, Facebook. It seems to be the top story. I can’t imagine what he went through as a man, how unhappy he was, and what a constant internal battle he was fighting. It must have been torture for him to travel through life not feeling like he was living the way he truly wanted to be living.

And while I’m happy for him, and hope that Caitlyn finds the peace she’s been searching for, I can’t help but think about all of the people out there who are currently living in a situation they don’t like. People feeling trapped or stuck, and not knowing what to do. It must be a hard way to live, very uncomfortable, and deflating.

It takes courage to admit you don’t like something in your life, and even greater courage to actually do something about it. As they say, “If it was easy, everyone wflawhahould do it.”

It doesn’t matter what IT is.

When we aren’t true to ourselves, and living an authentic life, it’s obvious. You feel it. Everyday. You can only pretend for so long, just as Bruce did, but eventually, you have to be honest with yourself.

If you’re getting out of bed each day, dreading the day, you need to take a close look at what’s going on. Nothings perfect, and life sure isn’t, but you deserve to get up in the morning excited about the beautiful day in front of you. If you aren’t happy, figure out what you need to do to get there, and do it.

If you feel happy and content, count your blessings. Recognize it’s a gift to feel satisfied with who you are, and where you are in your life, and say a little prayer of thanks. Don’t take it for granted.

Happiness isn’t something we’re guaranteed to have or get. We must work at it, figure out what we need, and create it. It’s an obtainable goal. You might have to make some changes, and be willing to do some work, but it’s there for your taking.

As for Caitlyn, I think she’s incredibly brave, and I wish her only good things.

Find meaning each day,

Dara
