Negativity

Sometimes, another person’s negativity can take over, and before we know it, our good mood can be replaced with grumpy feelings.

I was cooking dinner the other evening, and the whole house smelled like a fast food restaurant. I don’t usually cook chicken on top of the stove, in oil, but this particular recipe called for it.

It’s a recipe my family will eat, which doesn’t happen very often. I was taking one for the team. It felt like the smell had seeped into every part of my house and all over everything: the air, my hair, my clothes.

If you aren’t careful, you can be pulled into another person’s bad mood.

There was no escaping it. The smell had slowly taken over. It didn’t happen all at once, and I didn’t notice it at first. It’s like someone flipped a switch, and it was everywhere.

Just like negativity. It can seep into your life and take over, quickly and discretely.

I’m usually a positive person. It takes a lot to rattle me, especially after going through my super fun breast cancer experience. This is a good thing. I like that it takes a lot to unnerve me. I like that I don’t let little things get to me.

That doesn’t mean I’m perfect. I get grumpy, just like everyone else. Most of the time, I notice it, take a moment, check in with myself, and can usually get back on track. Because, I don’t like being negative. I don’t like feeling cranky.

I’ve noticed that when I’m around someone who’s being negative, it’s easy to take on those same feelings. I can be in a great mood, get around someone who is cranky and pessimistic, and the next thing I know, my good mood is gone. The same holds true with positive people. When I’m around a positive person, I feel their positive energy. I don’t know about you, but I like being happy a lot more than being unhappy.

Be careful who you spend your time with. Guard your positive energy. Be around people who make you feel good, and don’t let anyone’s negative energy seep into you.

Find meaning each day,

Dara
